Comparison of Whole and Section Otolith Methods for Age Determination of Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

This study aims to determine the reliability of age determination by comparing whole and section otoliths Cyprinus carpio species living in Altınkaya Dam Lake (ADL) Bafra Fish Lakes (BFL). samples (117 individuals) were obtained between 2017-2018, total lengths each fish measured (±0.1 cm) their weights (±0.01 g) weighed. Ages determined from distal surfaces all (asteriscus) transversal sections taken. Percent agreement, average percent error coefficient variation calculated. In population, ranged 17.8-69.3 cm 67.57-5 412 g. The ages read as 2-6, 2-7 ADL 1-8,0-7 BFL, respectively. It is otolith method with highest agreement (75.43% 71.67%, respectively), lowest mean (3.89; 3.98) (5.11; 5.29) for BFL. For C.carpio both localities, it has been that readings provide more reliable results than method.
